Additional emergency measures in respect of dangerous substances

 

Information on emergency arrangements is available including:-

Details of relevant work hazards and hazard identification and Specific hazards likely to arise at the time of an accident, incident or emergency.

Suitable warning and other communication systems are established to enable an appropriate response including remedial actions.

Where necessary, before any explosion conditions are reached, visual or audible warnings are given and relevant persons withdrawn.

Escape facilities are provided and maintained

 

Unless the risk assessment indicates otherwise, in the event of fire arising from an accident, incident or emergency relating to dangerous substances, the responsible person must ensure that Immediate steps are taken to:-

Mitigate the effects of fire

Restore the situation to normal

Inform those relevant persons who may be affected.

 

The responsible person must ensure that any facilities, equipment and devices provided in the premises are maintained in an efficient state, in effective working order and in good repair.

 

Any person appointed by the responsible person who is not in his employment must:-

Be informed by the responsible person of the factors known or suspected by him of affecting the safety of any other person who may be affected by the conduct of his undertaking

Has access to information regarding dangerous substances

 

PROVISION OF INFORMATION TO EMPLOYEES

 

The responsible person must provide his employees with comprehensible and relevant information on:-

The risks to them as identified by the risk assessment

The preventive and protective measures

Evacuation and other emergency procedures

The identity of competent persons

Any risk identified to him by other employers in the same building which may affect them

 

Where a dangerous substance is present in or on the premises employees must be provided with:-

The details of such substance including the name of the substance and the risk it presents

Access to any relevant data sheet and

Legislative provisions applying to the substance

The significant findings of the Risk Assessment

 

Before employing a child, the responsible person should provide a parent of the child with comprehensible and relevant information on:-

The risks to that child identified by the risk assessment

The preventive and protective measures and

The risks notified to him by other responsible persons (multi occ.)
